EATING

WHY DO WE EAT?

eating
Most of the food you eat is fuel, burned by your body for energy to keep you going. it gets mainly from substances in food called carbohydrates and fats. But you also need to eat small amounts on food such as proteins, to help retain and build body cells, and tiny traces of chemicals called vitamins and minerals the body cannot make itself.

Where does food go when you eat it?

digestive system
Your food goes down through your body in a long tube called the alimentary canal. When you swallow, food slides your esophagus into the stomach, where it churns around for a few hours. then is it squeezed in to a long-coiled tube called the small intestine, where nourishing parts of the food absorbed into the blood. The rest then passes in to a larger tube called large intestine, and the waste and feces is pushed out through anus.

How long are our bowels?

Your bowels or intestines are also coiled that if you unwound them, they could be more than three times as long as your body.

How is food broken down?

chewingFood is broken into the small molecules the body needs by a process of digestion in two ways. First, food is broken up mechanically by chewing and by the squeezing muscles of your bowels(intestines). Second, it is attacked chemically by acids, such as bite and hydrochloric acid in your stomach, and by biological chemicals called enzymes, mixed in with your saliva and stomach juices.

What food makes you grow?

pro teensTo grow, your body need proteins, the natural substances from which cell are built. Proteins are made from 20 basic chemicals called "amino acids". the body can make 12 of these. the other eight you must get by eating protien rich milk, fish, eggs and beans.
